Corfu, Greece - Day 3

Being an early-bird has its compensations!

Today was a day we had looked forward to for a long time.  We went on a boat trip with Iakis - the same boat trip we did in 2014, only this time we had Rox, Jon and Issy with us!

We wandered down to the meeting place at a jetty on Barbati beach at 10:30.  Iakis met us at the jetty and we set off.  The scenery along the coastline was just breathtaking!

Our first stop was at some caves that we could swim into. I happily swam into a cave all on my own, when suddenly a large German lady appeared in the depths of the cave, seemingly out of nowhere, I nearly died of fright!  Apparently you could enter into one cave and there was a tunnel underwater that you could swim into and emerge in "my" cave.  My nerves!

Jon lost his wedding ring in the water.  I think we all thought it was gone for good!  But Jon borrowed a snorkel and goggles from Iakis, he spent a couple of minutes snorkeling around and emerged victorious, with the wedding ring firmly in place!

After that rather eventful little interlude we set off again heading to the lighthouse right at the top of the island,   Albania was really close by, it was quite fascinating to see the towns up close.  The lighthouse was beautiful. We swam around a bit, but the current was quite strong and it was a bit of a battle swimming against it, with little waves slapping into my face.  I can't say I loved that!  Jon climbed up some rocks and jumped off a cliff into the sea - Rox nearly had a heart attack (I couldn't look!)

Once we were all back on board we headed to a secluded beach where we swam and snorkeled while Iakis cooked us lunch.  Lunch was magnificent!  All fresh as can be and cooked right there on the boat.  We ate the best tzatziki ever, baked feta, cheese saganaki, bread, salad, roast veg, kalamari, fresh fish and king prawns.  We ate until we literally couldn't take another bite!  We had white wine, beer, soft drinks and ouzo to wash it down.

Our charming host, Iakis

After another lovely swim we headed off to Kassiopi where we bought ice-creams and wandered around for a while.

It's exhausting being a jet-setter!
Then it was off to our final swimming spot, a gorgeous beach with the most incredible blue-green waters I have ever seen.

Finally we got back on board and headed home.  We were all feeling pretty tired from all the sea, sun and swimming, so had a relatively early night. Such a brilliant day!
