Barcelona - Day 1

Sunday 26 June - Logroño to Barcelona
Today, having finished our week-long walk on the Camino de Santiago, we (Grant, Gill and  our daughter, Paula) made our way to Barcelona. You can read about our time on the Camino here. We are joining our daughter, Roxy, son-in-law Jonathan and granddaughter, Isabella (Issy) in Barcelona.

This morning we caught a taxi to the station, had a bite to eat at a cafe at the station and then hopped on our train bound for Barcelona. It was a nice relaxing train journey.  We duly arrived at Barcelona station, found our waiting transfer (yeah, me and my "men in black", love them!) who then took us to collect our luggage at Luggage Barcelona (quick and painless) before taking us to the apartment we have rented for the week, where Rox, Jon and Issy were already settled in and waiting for us.

The apartment is very pleasant, it's in a residential area, completely off the tourist trail and is tastefully furnished, with everything we need.  There are a number of restaurants close by, as well as a shopping centre and, importantly for Issy, a couple of nice playgrounds.  We had a slight hitch today, in that all the shops in the area appear to be closed, they clearly take Sundays more seriously here than they do at home!

Jon spent some time on the internet, searching for an open supermarket and he finally found one that, although not exactly nearby, was within walking distance.  We took Issy to the park for a while and then Grant and Jon trekked off to the supermarket to stock up on the essentials.

We had homemade bocadillos for supper and then wandered down the road to Starbucks for frappuccinos for dessert.  On the way home we took Issy to a playground - she LOVES the playgrounds.  We all got quite a shock when we realised it was actually rather late at night - the sun sets so late here, about 10pm!  So we headed home for bath and bed.

Such a vibrantly beautiful bougainvillea, and Paula's pretty cute too!

There are loads of these birds in Barcelona.
