Cruise - Genoa, Italy

Today Jon, Rox and Issy did the Celebrity excursion called "Genoa City Highlights Tour and Aquarium visit"

They didn't love the Genoa tour, but they were very impressed with the aquarium and wished they had had more time there.

Grant, Paula, Lisa, Trev and I did the Rapallo, Santa Margherita and Portofino excursion.  First stop on this excursion was Rapallo - Rapallo was not much to write home about in our opinion, it was quite tired-looking and a bit boring.  We were given a free breakfast at the Cafe Grande, which was a nice gesture, but again, nothing special.  We had far too much free time in Rapallo, which was such a waste as we could have done with more free time in Santa Margherita or Portofino as it turned out.

After our visit to Rapallo we got back in the bus and headed to Santa Margherita.  We loved Santa Margherita, it was a really cute little place.  We had the best gelato I have ever tasted there (and I've tasted a LOT of gelato!) - to find the gelateria... if you have your back to the church, walk straight ahead one block and there it is.

We ate our gelato while wandering down the pedestrian street, took a couple of photos and then it was time to meet our guide and get on the ferry to Portofino.  We could definitely have done with more time here, I don't understand the guide's thinking!

The ferry took about 15 minutes to get to Portofino, it was a very scenic ride.  Portofino is just gorgeous!  The sea is the most incredible blue and the buildings are beautiful.  We love, love, loved it!

We walked up a steep hill to the church for the most amazing views and then walked back to town where we stopped in a couple of little shops and then sat at a restaurant where we sampled the local gelato and had a beer.  After that there was only enough time for a very short wander and then it was time for the ferry-ride back to Santa Margherita and the bus back to Genoa.

Once back on board we spent some time in the Solarium.  We then babysat Issy while Rox, Jon and Paula had dinner with Trev and Lisa.

Grant and I then had some alone time over dinner, and drinks at the Sunset Bar which is our favourite.
