Cruise - Chania, Crete, Greece

As we had no excursions planned, we had a slow morning, with breakfast in the buffet.  We then left the ship and walked across to the shuttle bus (€1.70) which took us from the port into Chania which was a short drive away.

I had no expectations of Chania.  I had read a few posts on the Cruise Critic boards that suggested one should treat Chania as a sea day!  Wow, were they wrong.  We loved Chania!  In fact I would consider spending a couple of days there, such a beautiful little town.

The shuttle dropped us off very centrally, right outside the market.  We took a lovely wander through the market.  There was plenty to spend your money on - honey products, olives, drinks, nougat, souvenirs.....

We then wandered through lovely shop and cafe lined streets all the way to the Venetian harbour.  There are really lovely shops in Chania, lots of artisan products.

The Venetian Harbour area is really pretty.

We stopped at a cafe for something to drink and then slowly made our way back to the market, stopping at various shops along the way.   I would really love to have had lunch in Chania, but being poor South Africans with a really crappy exchange rate we are watching every cent.... most annoying!

We caught the shuttle from the market back to the ship.  One of the things I love about Celebrity is the flavoured water and ice-cold face cloths you are greeted with on arrival back at the boat.

Once on-board began the miserable task of packing.  We went to the Sunset Bar to watch sail-away.  We enjoyed lazily watching the dance party and admiring the view.  I don't know why, but to me the sail-aways in Greece are always really pretty.

There was a High Tea on the lawn today, it was quite expensive so we didn't go, but it looked interesting.  This is the set up.

Issy is getting totally into the business of being on-board.

We had our last dinner in the main dining-room..  The end of a cruise is always so depressing!

A couple of interesting links:

I found this interesting site - about food on offer in Chania!  There is also this site, which is useful, and finally, this site, describes a self-guided walk in the town.
